FCC Releases NPRM on White Space Device Operations
On Monday, March 2, 2020, the Commission released the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (“NPRM”) in the Unlicensed White Space Device Operations proceeding, which was adopted in the February Open Meeting (ET Docket No. 20-36).
The NPRM proposes to modify the Commission’s rules to provide additional opportunities for unlicensed white space devices operating in the broadcast TV bands to deliver wireless broadband services in rural areas and applications associated with Internet of Things (“IoT”) services, and offers proposals to spur growth in the white space device area.
The adopted version of the item seeks additional comment on requirements for higher power mobile white space devices, but otherwise there were no significant changes made to the adopted version from the previously circulated draft NPRM.
