FCC Seeks Comment on 2015 3.5 GHz Band Rule Changes
On August 10, 2018, the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau and Office of Engineering and Technology (“WTB” and “OET,” respectively) released a Public Notice seeking comment on the rule changes made in 2015 to the 3550-3700 MHz band (3.5 GHz band) to introduce new commercial wireless use, pursuant to the Spectrum Pipeline Act of 2015 (“Act”) (GN Docket Nos. 14-177; 15-139; 17-183; and 17-258).
Under the Act, the FCC is required to request comment and provide to Congress no later than November 2, 2018 a report containing: 1) an analysis of the results of the 2015 rule changes relating to the frequencies between 3550 MHz and 3560 MHz; and 2) an analysis of proposals to promote and identify additional spectrum bands that can be shared between incumbent uses and new licensed and unlicensed services under such rules and identification of at least 1 GHz between 6 GHz and 57 GHz for such use.
